Chris McGrath started his photography career at a regional newspaper in Queensland, Australia. After completing his newspaper cadetship
and a diploma in photography, he joined Getty Images as a staff photographer based in Sydney. He has been on staff with Getty Images for the past nineteen years and has been based out of their New York, Singapore and Tokyo offices.
Over the years he has covered major news stories and sports events including, the South East Asia Tsunami, the Tohuku Tsunami,
The Battle for Mosul, the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, the election of Barack Obama, the fight against ISIS in Syria, five Summer Olympic games,
the Superbowl and the FIFA World Cup.
His work regularly appears in major newspaper, news magazines and websites around the world
and he has received awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, NPPA, and CHIPP amongst others.
In 2015 he relocated to work out of the Getty Images Istanbul office, where he is currently based
covering Turkey and the Middle East.
